A Geist Home Makeover

A Geist Home Makeover

We hear a lot about home makeover projects such as kitchen remodels and master bath transformations.

But how about the exterior of your home? A good exterior transformation can give your home a serious boost in curb appeal.

An exterior update can also be a less costly alternative to moving and buying or building a brand new home.

That’s how Tonia and Brett Lotz felt when they discussed moving to a new neighborhood and buying a new home a couple of years ago. They built their Geist home in 2003 and were ready for some change. But considering they still liked the neighborhood and the school system for their two kids, they decided to stay in their existing home and make a few changes, inside and out.

The “few” changes began inside new paint, some new furniture and new flooring throughout the main level of the home. They also felt the Kitchen needed a facelift, too. So they called their favorite painter they’ve used on other projects, Chris Allison of Allison Painting. Chris painted the wood cabinets in a white lacquer and new Cambria countertops were brought in. Chris also built a new island for the kitchen and finished it in black, giving this more-than-a-decade-old kitchen a whole new look.

“One thing certainly leads to another when you are remodeling,” Tonia says.

Then as the inside of their home was rapidly changing, they realized the exterior of their red brick home did look a little dated, too. They thought perhaps updating the exterior would make the home look as new as its transformed interior.

Still, painting the exterior of their home certainly sounded like a big deal and they weren’t sure where to begin picking colors.

Tonia, an event planner and Owner of “TL Event Servicez LLC” says she watched a lot of HGTV and looked at photos on HOUZZ to get her inspiration and ideas for their home. She claims she and husband Brett, a Senior Account Manager at Phillips Healthcare, found the most help at the nearby Sherwin-Williams paint store with its in-home color consultation service.

“They came to our home and helped pick the gray color combination for the exterior of the home, which was a huge help,” Tonia says. “Then they picked the blue shade for the front door. I never would have thought of that one.”

Chris Allison returned to paint the outside of the home which was done in functional Gray, Backdrop and Reserved White with a Rainstorm blue front door.

New light fixtures, updated shutters, window boxes and new aluminum awnings added the perfect finishing touches to the home’s grand exterior makeover.

The smiling couple says they are happy with their decision to stay and transform their home.

“And to think this all started with a TV,” laughs Brett pointing to the flat screen TV over a brand new console in the family room.

“Toni came home one day and said we should get a new TV and get rid of the outdated entertainment center in the family room.

I thought, ‘this is great! I’m in,’” he says.
